SONG’S LYRICS

 “When You Believe”

By : Mariah Carey

Many nights we’ve prayed

With no proof anyone could hear

In our hearts a hope for a song
We barely understood

Now we are not afraid
Although we know there’s much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could, whoa, yes

There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill

Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain

Hope seems like the summer bird
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I’m standing here
My hearts so full, I can’t explain

Seeking faith and speakin’ words
I never thought I’d say
There can be miracles
When you believe (When you believe)

Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve (You can achieve)

When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe
They don’t always happen when you ask
And its easy to give in to your fears
But when you’re blinded by your pain
Can’t see the way, get through the rain

A small but still, resilient voice
Says hope is very near, oh (Oh)
There can be miracles (Miracles)
When you believe

Though hope is frail (Its hard)
Its hard to kill (Hard to kill, oh, yeah)
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve (You can achieve, oh)

When you believe somehow you will (Somehow, somehow, somehow)
Somehow you will (I know, I know, know)
You will when you believe (When you)
(Oh oh)

(You will when you)
(You will when you believe)
(Ohoohooh)
(Oh, oh)

(When you believe)
(When you believe)

MEANING OF THE SONG

When You Believe, the messages of the song if you believe and trust of God there’s nothing imposible, there can be miracle.  This is one of the my favorite song. So many word of motivation there. Don’t afraid to have a big dream. Just action, pray and believe. Examples from the part of lyrics :

Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain

This song tell us about the brave to have a big dreams, achieve it and also don’t forget always pray to the God. We don’t know what happen to us next. Just Believe HE always give us the best that we need. The last, I have a best qoute represent this song from Agnes Monica : Dream – Believe – Make It Happen

GRAMMAR

  1. Modal Verb

Modal verbs are auxiliary verbs (also known as “helping verbs”). Normally modal verbs cannot work alone and must work with a main verb. Modals: can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might, must, ought (to)

The use example of modal in this song:

  • You will when you believe

Will  is an auxiliary verb, a modal auxiliary verb. We use could to:

  • to talk about the future – to say what we believe will happen
  • to talk about what people want to do or are willing to do
  • to make promises and offers
  • With no proof anyone could hear

Could is an auxiliary verb, a modal auxiliary verb. We use could to:

  • talk about past possibility or ability
  • make requests

Stucture of modal : Subject + Auxiliary verb + main verb

  1. Tense

Generally, this song uses present simple tense.  Present Simple to talk about general time and situations now. Look at these examples in this song:

  • Now we are not afraid
  • In our hearts a hope for a song

But there’s uses Present Perfect tense. There is always a connection with the past and  with the present. We use the Present Perfect to talk about experience, change and continuing situation. Example:

  • Many nights we’ve prayed

Not only that, also there’s Past Continuos Tense.  For the example :

  • We were moving mountains
  1. The Verb To be

Normally we use the verb to be to show the status or characteristics of something or someone (as a stative verb). It says what I am, what you are or what something is.

For the examples:

  • Now we are not afraid
  • Yet now I am standing here
